SEGi University students joined young innovators from around the world at the World Invention Competition and Exhibition (WICE) 2026, an international platform that brought together students, educators and aspiring innovators to showcase creative ideas, research and technological solutions.
The 2026 competition attracted participation from 12 countries, including Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Mexico, South Korea, Vietnam, Belarus, China, Canada, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh and Indonesia, reflecting the international reach of the event.
The physical competition was held from 19 to 23 September 2026, bringing together 243 teams in a dynamic environment for innovation, knowledge exchange and international engagement. Across WICE 2026, approximately 1,500 participants were involved, with the physical competition welcoming participants from Indonesia, Bangladesh, Mexico, Malaysia and Thailand.
SEGi University was represented by five teams, who showcased projects across Applied Physics and Engineering, Information Technology and Robotics. Their participation resulted in an impressive four Gold medals and one Silver medal, reflecting the students’ ability to translate technical knowledge into innovative solutions.
Among the award-winning projects were “Thermo-Hydraulic Performance and Corrosion Dynamics of Metal Foams in Power Plant Coolers” by Tang Yu Le and Ng Nii Chien, which received Gold, and “LiftAssist: A Lightweight Exoskeleton Robotic Arm for Safe Lifting” by Yarshveen A/L Murugu Tamil Selvan, Inesh Singh Dhillon and Pranava Kumaran A/L Thiruganaselvan, which received Silver.
Varsanraaj Vijayan Sugkhesh Ganasen also secured Gold for “T-Joint of Magnesium Alloy AZ31B with Aluminium Powder Using Low-Power Microwave Welding.”
Another Gold was awarded to Thanushri A/P Jayakanth Rao, Iqmilhaqeem Fakhrurazi Bin Ismail, Jayarish A/L Murugesan, Kapui Collins Simushi, Bakshvinder Kaur Dhaliwal and Meshach Jothi Victor for “EcoCatch-M: A Floating River Trash Interceptor Integrated with a Mycelium-Based Filtration System.”
Completing SEGi’s medal tally, Arthur Nyathi received Gold for “Smart CPR-Drone for EMS.”
Participation in WICE provided the students with more than a competitive platform. It allowed them to present and communicate their ideas to an international audience, observe innovations developed by teams from other countries and broaden their perspectives on research, technology and problem-solving.
The event also created opportunities for cross-cultural exchange and knowledge sharing, enabling students to discover how different teams approach real-world challenges through innovation and creative thinking.
SEGi University’s participation in WICE 2026 further reflects its commitment to encouraging students to explore new ideas, apply their knowledge and engage with opportunities that prepare them to contribute meaningfully to an increasingly innovation-driven world.
