(This is reproduced from the posting I made on my Facebook Page on 3rd May 2025.)

I travel quite often alone, and it could either be for pleasure or for business purposes. Where business is considered, it usually entails several meetings with business associates in their offices or in my hotel room which normally would be spacious enough to include a sitting room or workspace. I’ve hardly brought my bodyguards or aides along for overseas trips after the pandemic.

And I’ve redefined the term of “pleasure” while on the move. It would be some “quiet me time” and a fair distance away from the office and familiar faces, as what I am doing here in my hotel room in Singapore. Either that or I would meet up with some local friends for some local delicacies while we catch up on current affairs – possibly talk about everything except business or corporate deals.

I used to prefer to travel to faraway places when I was full of youthful energy and enthusiasm. But in recent years, I would select nearer destinations as the long journeys can take quite a toll. It could be due to a body prone to physical tiredness or just plain laziness. Too much packing, walking or waiting aren’t things I savor a lot these days.

One of my tycoon friends was telling me the other day how he loved to travel in his younger days but didn’t have the money to do so often enough. Ironically, we’re less physically able to travel much in our later years though we’re financially capable to do so. I find it hard to determine if it’s a funny or sad situation.
