The revival of the long-stalled Remix 1 project at Subang Jaya which affects thousands of people has gained momentum with HCK Capital Group taking possession of the abandoned site and moving in to create a hive of activity. We have just officially appointed Binastra Corporation Berhad as the main contractor to complete the development, now renamed Subang Sentral, marking a major milestone in reviving the hopes and dreams of more than 2500 purchasers badly affected by the abandonment and subsequent liquidation of the original developer. They have previously collectively paid hundreds of millions of ringgit and have gotten nothing in return for more than a decade.

Binastra’s leadership team also has a proven track record in executing successful turnarounds. It previously stepped in as the white knight to rescue Comintel from its PN17 status. Following this, Binastra was involved in revitalising the Empire Residence project, where three residential developments have since obtained their certificates of completion and compliance. We have chosen public listed Binastra, which has a market capitalization of RM2.22 billion, for its track record and financial strength. Its managing director and controlling shareholder Datuk Jackson Tan is a good friend, who never fails to amaze me with his energetic passion and business foresight.

The just signed contract with Binastra is for 1st phase, valued at RM316.5 million. The entire Subang Sentral project will be completed in 4 phases, and the total construction cost is estimated to be more than RM1 billion. This is a mammoth task and undertaking by any measure. Subang Sentral is part of my property group’s strategic property portfolio which has a total gross development value (GDV) of approximately RM15 billion across the Klang Valley, and the figure is increasing with new launches and land acquisitions.

HCK is confident that its role as the “white knight” will bring a long-awaited closure for purchasers and enhance the Subang Jaya skyline and surrounding infrastructure. It has been a long and tedious process to get to this stage of getting real works started on the ground. Previously, there have been long drawn legal issues between the earlier contracting parties. I believe all that is under the bridge now and everyone, including the local authorities and community, only want the project, now an eyesore and health hazard in the area, to be revived and completed.

I have assured that the affected 2500 buyers won’t have to fork out any extra payments to get their completed units, despite the fact they’ve paid almost their full purchase price to the 1st developer and the prices of raw materials have increased drastically over the past few years – HCK will fund and top up the full construction costs. Importantly, moving forward, we’re aware that goals are dreams with deadlines.
