Recently the Hiichiikok Foundation was approached by ESMT Berlin, one of the leading business schools in Germany to ask for internship for four of their bright students – each from Lebanon, India, Turkey and Spain, as part of their MBA coursework. The girls volunteered to help out at our children’s home for four weeks.

They had been of great help to us, making fundraising promotional videos and getting sponsors for our art craft supplies as well as helping out with the children workshop. Apparently they had found us through online platforms. I think this is a good opportunity for them to learn about the intricate cultures of Malaysia, and more importantly, the far-reaching problem of being homeless and not wanted.

I invited the group to my office for a chat and some snacks, and I find them to be generally very comfortable with Malaysian culture and local hospitality. I find it heartening that a private charity like Hiichiikok Foundation is able to leave its small mark not only on the local scene, but on the global arena. Hearts connect where borders cannot, because human kindness is an universally shared language.
