I was at our showcase outlet for Wong Yiu Nam TCM Medical Centre at Pearl Shopping Gallery, Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur, which will officially open on 22nd February. This is the 1st step towards our ambitious plan to set up a chain of traditional Chinese medicine clinics and treatment centers in Klang Valley and other cities in the country within the next 3 years. We’re bringing the time tested alternative therapies to local Malaysians, as our venture is in collaboration with the well established Wong Yiu Nam TCM group of Taiwan and Singapore.

Coinciding with this new initiative, SEGi University is starting a TCM faculty to train TCM practitioners through a twinning program with highly rated Shanghai University for TCM. Once the 5-year program is launched, the 2 universities’ lecturers will give top notch training to aspiring TCM physicians. On the other hand, at our clinics, we want our staff practitioners provide highly personalized care for those seeking alternative medical treatments.
On a macro level, TCM is but a part of my foray into the wellness industry, through a start up called Urban Healthcare Group which, besides the TCM centers, will include the setting up of veterinary & pet hospitals as well as dental clinics with an emphasis on aesthetics. As we become more advanced and developed, we ironically become less in touch with our health and body fitness despite the conveniences at our disposal.
Through Urban Healthcare, we want to extend affordable and quality healthcare to busy individuals and their pet companions, at locations likely to be in close proximity to them. People ask how many centers I’m planning for the 3 types of healthcare services, as obviously my business model is based on a high-volume approach, to make it sizable and cost efficient. 20, 30, maybe even 50 or more outlets?
It’s hard to tell exactly. There’s no perfect plan when we start something from scratch. A few more locations have already been confirmed and are undergoing licensing or renovation processes. We will adjust the details of our overall strategy as we push ahead, fueled by market demand and depending on our resources capability. But we are determined to make the voyage a fruitful one, while never losing sight of the final goal. Likewise, good health is never a destination. It’s a continuous journey.
