My 2010 Wish List

2010-01-19

The years come and go just as the tide never abates. Each passing year is followed by a new one bearing fresh hopes of better tidings. This year I shall make a different wish list; not a typical one about better health, wealth and longevity.

2009 was a year about recovery from economic trials and tribulations caused by the 2008 global economic downturn. 2010 is really something else, based on very unfortunate events that hit West Malaysia earlier this month.

Thus, for my sake, my family’s and friends’ sakes and humanity’s sake … I wish for peace in Malaysia and beyond. I really hope that the political situation is kept stable and in check.

For that to happen I have to wish for delivery of promises made by the powers that be, not just promises made by them on economic prosperity but on the ideal of 1Malaysia. How I wish upon a star, that the 1Malaysia slogan does not become another empty catch-phrase.

The outstanding Christian in me (out-standing because I have been standing out-side churches) would want to put my palms together and bow in hopeful prayer that this would lead to lower crime rates as well as better quality investments from the government and foreign investors.

For the man in the street, it would be really nice also for the cost of living to stop spiraling. Yet again, I hope for the powers that be to do what is right instead of contributing to that spiral.

Education has always been a passion of mine, so I wish that fair educational opportunities in Malaysia are enhanced for all irregardless of race, religion or gender. Let education be the guiding light to higher civic consciousness, maturity in thought and progressive thinking.

So let’s hope for the best for 2010.
