The Bachelor of Dental Surgery programme is one of the most popular courses offered at SEGi University. The school only accepts 50 students yearly and only the best are selected. This is in line with the vision of the school’s founding dean, Datuk Prof Dr Fawzia Abdullah who aspires SEGi University to produce only competent and caring dentists.
The school started taking in the first batch of students in 2011. It now has 218 dentistry students and the first cohort is expected to graduate in September next year. It have over 50 staff, including 25 academics who are among the best in their respective fields.
The school is equipped with state-of-the-art dental chairs and tools to enhance the learning experience. Students also get early clinical exposure via the SEGi Oral Health Centre, which is very popular among the community living in or near the university’s campus in Kota Damansara.
My own daughter, Audrey, is a practicing dentist in Brisbane. It was a career I greatly encouraged her to take up. With the high dental costs these days, dentists are the only ones who help you put your money where your mouth is.
