When the HCK Group first embarked on our education city series projects, we didn’t really know what to expect. It was a novel idea in Malaysia as not many developers had undertaken such projects on the scale that we had envisioned.

Fast forward a couple of years later, and we are now into our fourth education city project. We officially launched edumetro @ USJ1 about two weeks ago and it’s going to be one of our most challenging education city projects so far.

Edumetro’s launching was officiated by (from left) HCK Group ED, Dr Dennis Ling; Group ED (Growth and Strategic Alliances), Clifford Hii and CEO Properties Division CEO Foong Peng Yew

Since the launch, the response has been very encouraging despite the supposed soft market. We believe buyers are drawn to the concept of stay-shop-study of our education city projects. By incorporating an educational component within the development, we add value to the project by creating a self-sustaining ecosystem where residents can stay, shop and study there.

The project was initially undertaken by another developer which ran into problems but the HCK Group had since early this year taken over the project, which has an estimated gross development value of RM850 million. Since taking over, we had awarded construction work to well-known public-listed builder Kerjaya Prospek Group Bhd for RM280 million.

Besides edumetro, other education city projects under construction are edusentral @ Setia Alam; eduenclave @ Ipoh and edusphere @ Cyberjaya. We dare to be different.
