The Minimalist culture is all the rage now. Many are downsizing and moving into a lifestyle where you minimize your possessions to only what is necessary in order to focus more on non-material things like happiness, relationships and your dreams.

Merits of Decluttering
Personally, I like my office and personal space to be uncluttered. I like the locations where I do most of my thinking and business decisions to be orderly and oraganised as it helps me have a great clarity of mind during these important times.
Research conducted by Princeton University Neuroscience Institute also concluded that when your environment is cluttered, the disarray restricts your ability to focus. The clutter also limits your brain’s ability to process information. Clutter makes you distracted and unable to process information as well as you do in an uncluttered, organized, and serene environment.

The art of living simply
There are many household names which have joined the clutter-free bandwagon. Netflix released “Tidying Up With Marie Kondo”, a charming, addictive series wherein the petite Japanese author revamps horaders’ homes. The world is simultaneously documenting its fanaticism for KonMari on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and beyond. Surely, timing the show’s release to people’s New Year’s resolutions has helped its ratings to soar!

Win-win situation

A simplified life means that you are getting rid of any extra mental and physical clutter, so that you can have more time for the things that actually matter to you. Simplifying your life is important — everything in your life takes up space. So whether it’s mental space, physical space, or calendar space, you only have so much room. It is also environmentally friendly not to amass so many material possessions and even online mail inboxes overflowing with unread emails.

My annual Chinese New Year ritual is to clean out all excess clutter in my home and office and also my online mailboxes so that I have the clarity of mind to reflect and write for my social media Facebook and blog posts and other leisure activities – and of course to get started on my long-waited autobiography book, eventually..
