I am gratified to note that my old school, SMK Sacred Heart in Sibu emerged as the country’s best school in last year’s STPM. Of the 137 candidates who sat for the exam, 10 obtained straight As while 68 scored at least 2As. Its principal, Mr David Teo received a certificate of recognition from Education Minister, Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid.

I had just visited to school last October to officiate at its Speech Day and opened the school’s lecture theatre, which I donated and was named after my late father, Hii Heng Chiong. Over the years, I had made periodic visits there.

The school had undergone tremendous development in the past few years. On those Speech Days, I had been reminding the students to aspire for greater heights. I had also provided incentives in cash and kind to inspire them. The principal; teachers; parents and the PTA all played an important part in the school’s success. Well done!
