2018 certainly contained significant milestones in both my entrepreneurial journey and personal life. There is a famous quote which I fully resonate with, “I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again”.
As an entrepreneur, it would be pragmatic to be driven solely by profits and balancing the bottom line at the end of the day. However, I knew that there was more I could add to the business equation
There were many detractors and property industry gurus who balked at our initial proposal of building “education cities” across the country. Our HCK Group has also managed to carved out a niche market in delivering quality education by establishing Peninsula International School Australia (PISA) in January this year in Setia Alam and built a campus for CUCMS at “Edusphere” in Cyberjaya.

My Sibu siblings and their families made a recent trip to KL to celebrate the birth of twins to my son Clifford and his wife Julie. We also arranged visits to my offices, campuses, projects and even a yacht cruise. This was the 1st time they were given a peep into my corporate life in the federal capital, and they appeared surprised with the extent and scale of my business initiatives.
Organised annually since 2015 by our business paper FOCUS MALAYSIA, The Best Under Billion Awards, or BUBA, was conceptualised to honour public companies whose market caps are in the RM150 mil to RM950mil range. That constitutes 80% of all listed entities, in all sectors and industries. The awards are supported by Bursa Malaysia and the selection process is vetted by KPMG.
HCK Capital Group won the “Best Mixed Development Award” (for our project Edusphere @ Cyberjaya) and “People’s Choice Award” at the recent iProperty Development Excellence Awards (iDEA).
HCK Group F&B subsidiary under its investment division, which is the Malaysian master franchisee for “Jamaica Blue Fine Coffees” launched 2 new outlets out of Klang Valley – in Muar and Kuching -plus an exciting new menu as well at all its outlets in Malaysia. https://www.jamaicablue.com.my/our-products/
HCK Group’s Edusphere would be a bustling hub of 6 residential towers, a commercial centre and a reputable university, CUCMS. The project, with a gross development value of RM1.7 billion, sits on 24 acres of freehold land, and like our other edu-series, offers the unique “stay, shop & study” self-sustainable ecosystem. http://edusphere.com.my/
Leaving my footprints
Six years ago I formed a growing “community” of many like-minded individuals who’re eager to share and learn. Like the physical community in which we live, our presence on online platforms probably also have an influence on our lives and routines. We’ve a few million passive followers, but we also have many regulars whose consistent post engagements make a huge difference. A community grows not just from shared experiences, but also from meaningful contributions.
Famous best-selling author Rick Warren once wrote, “Knowing your purpose gives meaning to your life” in his worldwide popular book “The Purpose Driven Life,” which greatly influenced me. I am now more determined to make my life more meaningful and purposeful each year and make a difference in this world through my corporate and social responsibility networks.
