About Me

Dato' Sri Clement Hii feels an entrepreneur embarking on a corporate journey must know exactly where he wants to go, or else he'll end up where he doesn't want to be.

After a career in journalism, including a stint as the first Chief Editor of The Borneo Post, he was involved in advertising and marketing consultancy for many years. Dato' Sri Hii was appointed to the board of public-listed SEG International Bhd in September 2001, assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Since then, SEGi has become Malaysia's leading private education provider with an extensive network of colleges and training centres throughout the country.

Dato' Sri Hii is now its Group Managing Director and major shareholder.

In January 2009, he was appointed Executive Deputy Chairman of Star Publications (M) Bhd, which publishes Malaysia's leading English newspaper, the Star. He completed his two-year tenure in December 2010.

Dato' Sri Hii is also the Executive Chairman and CEO of HCK Capital Group of Companies, which is in diversified areas such as properties, construction and investments. Hii is also actively involved in charitable and social work through the few foundations which he has set up, including Hiichiikok Foundation and Centre for a Better Tomorrow.

His business awards include, in 2003, a corporate excellence award from the Stock Exchange of Malaysia and he was a Top Nominee for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 award. Among others, he was also conferred the CEO Award at the ASEAN Awards for Leadership organised by Technology Business Review (TBR) in November, 2008.

Dato' Sri Hii, who holds a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree, has received an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration from UK's University of Sunderland (UOS) in 2006. He was also conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws by his alma mater, the University of Wolverhampton (UOW) in December 2007.

He has also been awarded honorific titles (Dato' Sri, Dato' and Justice of Peace) by the states of Penang, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang.
