About Me

Dato' Clement Hii thinks living life is like taking a roller coaster ride. It has its ups and downs, its exciting and terrifying moments.

He feels an entrepreneur embarking on a corporate journey must know exactly where he wants to go, or else he’ll end up where he doesn’t want to be.

Hii holds a UK Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree, and became known as “Hii who Bought his College” after he took over the Kuching institution where he did part time studies many years ago.

After a career in journalism, which saw him appointed as Chief Editor of The Borneo Post, he was involved in advertising and marketing consultancy for many years. Dato’ Hii was appointed to the board of public-listed SEG International Bhd in September 2001, assuming the role of Chief Executive Officer.

Since then, SEGi has become one of Malaysia’s leading private education providers with an extensive network of colleges and training centres throughout the country.

In January 2009, he was appointed Executive Deputy Chairman of Star Publications (M) Bhd, which publishes Malaysia’s leading English newspaper, the Star.

Besides education and media, companies which he manages or advises are in diversified areas such as properties, construction and investments.

His business awards include, in 2003, a corporate excellence award from the Stock Exchange of Malaysia and he is a Top Nominee for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2008 award. He was also conferred the CEO Award at the ASEAN Awards for Leadership organised by Technology Business Review (TBR) in November, 2008.

Hii has received an Honorary Doctorate of Business Administration by UK’s University of Sunderland (UOS) in 2006.

He was also conferred the Honorary Doctorate of Laws from the University of Wolverhampton (UOW) in December 2007.
